Qué pasóWhat happened
Nadie envenenó el Lago de Atitlán. Le rompimos el círculo del agua, y el daño es continuo, invisible y acumulativo. Nobody poisoned Lake Atitlán. We broke its water cycle — and the damage is continuous, invisible and cumulative.
Donde más impacto se puede tener hoy es en las playas y los desagües. El problema es que esas áreas las controlan las municipalidades — y es muy difícil que una municipalidad pruebe una técnica que no tiene referencia en la zona. The highest-leverage places today are the beaches and the storm drains. The problem: those areas are controlled by municipalities — and it is very hard for a municipality to try a technique with no precedent nearby.

No es un jardín ni una playa arreglada. Es infraestructura viva: intercepta el agua contaminada, la trata biológicamente y devuelve la ribera a un estado funcional. En el proceso se convierte en jardín botánico de aprendizaje, sanación y recreación. This is not a garden, and not a tidied-up beach. It's living infrastructure: it intercepts contaminated water, treats it biologically, and returns the shoreline to a functional state. Along the way it becomes a botanical garden for learning, healing and recreation.
Cómo funcionaHow it works
Siete piezas entre la calle y el lago. Todo por gravedad: tres tramos con pendientes de 1°, 6° y 1°. El sistema no tiene un solo motor, y por eso no tiene mantenimiento mecánico. Seven pieces between the street and the lake. All gravity-fed: three reaches at 1°, 6° and 1°. The system has no motor at all, which is why it has no mechanical maintenance.

Porque es lo que no tiene quien lo pague. La maquinaria y la mano de obra las pone la Municipalidad; el diseño y la siembra los lleva CreaSol. Sin el sistema que desvía el agua de la calle, el humedal no recibe nada que tratar. Because it's the part with nobody to pay for it. Machinery and labor come from the Municipality; design and planting come from CreaSol. Without the system that diverts street water, the wetland has nothing to treat.
El sistema funciona por gravedad y no tiene partes mecánicas, así que no hay bombas ni motores que mantener.
